State DEP Forms Regulatory Review Task Force
The W.Va. Department of Environmental Protection has formed a nine-member task force to look at regulations of oil and natural gas drilling and production. This task force was formed to address the recent boom in drilling activity in the Marcellus Shale in West Virginia. It is anticipated the task force will recommend regulations that will recognize differences between the drilling of conventional vertical wells and the newer horizontal wells employing hydraulic fracturing to produce from the Marcellus and other gas horizons.
